A ceremonial pair of silver seven-light candelabra executed in the spirit of Historicism with a clear reference to Baroque forms and proportions. The composition is distinguished by a monumental silhouette, rich sculptural modeling and balanced architectural structure. The massive shaped bases, decorated with volutes and acanthus motifs, support tall baluster stems rising into an elaborate branched crown with gracefully curved S-shaped arms. The relief ornament enhances the play of light across the polished silver surface. Such pieces were conceived for grand interiors of the fin de siècle period.Hallmarks: Maker’s mark of an Italian silver workshop in the form of a hexagonal shield, a traditional type of workshop mark used in Northern Italy at the end of the 19th – early 20th century. Italian state assay mark indicating silver fineness “800”.Dimensions: Height: 50 cm; Width: 43 cm; Depth: 43 cm.Weight: Total weight of the pair: 1,780 g.Condition: Good. Even, attractive patina. Silver plated English wine cooler, stylized organic forms of bluebell, acanthus, grape leaves, medieval ivy. They form the handles and base of the cooler. Intricate and spontaneous foliage creeps into the main volume. The lively sound of the decor, historical reflections, make the object similar to the atmosphere of the English Pre-Raphaelites of the mid-19th century, with English Art and Craft.Coat of arms with the inscription FATO PROVIDENTIA MAJOR Manufacturers mark.

A PAIR OF ROCOCO REVIVAL VASES WITH GALLANT SCENES FRANCE, SECOND HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURY

A pair of decorative porcelain vases executed in a sumptuous Rococo Revival manner, richly embellished with sculptural relief and extensive gilding. The complex, multi-profiled bodies are raised on high Baroque-style pedestals with tiered bases adorned with cartouches, scrolls and shell motifs. The vessels are articulated by vertical panels alternating deep emerald-green grounds with lavish gilt ornament and finely painted pictorial reserves.The front and reverse of each vase are decorated with delicately executed multi-figure gallant scenes set in park landscapes, depicting courtly encounters with architectural elements, trees and fountains. The painting is distinguished by a vivid palette, refined rendering of costumes and expressive figures, enhancing the theatrical and decorative character of the compositions. The vases are fitted with elegant scrolling handles, richly gilded and harmoniously integrated into the overall silhouette.
