Music box, 19th century.
Disk music box, 19th century, in a wooden case, with singing birds - marquetry in the frame panel, corner balusters and strongly extended cornices of the lid and pedestal. Two cam mechanism in excellent condition. Movement serial number 99289. Includes 15 discs (diameter 30 cm). With melodies by European composers in a separate wooden box with handles. Case size: HSHG 24x49x37 cm. A complete revision of the mechanism has been carried out. Presumably manufactured by I.Ch. Detmering Hamburg.

An oval oil painting on cardboard, executed in the style of Russian Art Nouveau and the “World of Art” circle. The composition features a nude woman reclining in a relaxed pose on a bed, holding a book, her head resting on a pink pillow. The setting, with its delicate drapery, carved headboard, and silver tea service, evokes the refined domestic interiors of the Rococo era. The brushwork is soft and pastose, emphasizing the sensuality of the figure and the decorative richness of the surroundings. In the lower right corner appears the signature “K. Somov” and the date “1897.” The painting is presented in a gilt oval frame with a light blue museum-quality mat. On the reverse is an old collector’s label inscribed in ink: “K. Somov, 1869–1939,” framed by a decorative blue border.Dimensions: Painting: 30 × 37 cm. Frame: approximately 50 × 60 cmMaterial: Oil on cardboardCondition: Good condition. A refined Crimean landscape capturing the atmosphere of the southern coast on a clear summer day. The composition is structured around a gentle diagonal movement of the rocky shoreline, harmoniously balanced by the vertical accents of slender cypresses and the calm horizontal expanse of the sea. In the middle ground, a small house with a green roof is organically integrated into the natural setting, serving as both a compositional and chromatic focal point. In the distance, a panorama of mountain ranges unfolds in cool bluish-violet tones, dissolved within a luminous atmospheric perspective.Executed in a plein-air manner characteristic of Russian painting of the first third of the twentieth century, the work employs a free and confident brushstroke that avoids detailed delineation in favor of conveying the overall state of nature and the interplay of light, air, and space. The color scheme is built upon a subtle balance between the cool tones of the sea and mountains and the sun-bleached yellow-white and ochre hues of the coastal rocks, evoking the sensation of intense southern sunlight.
