SET OF SIX CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL SILVER TEASPOONS IN A PRESENTATION CASE. GRACHEV BROTHERS RUSSIA, SAINT PETERSBURG, LAST QUARTER OF THE 19TH CENTURY
A set of six silver teaspoons, produced in the workshop of the Imperial Court Supplier firm Grachev Brothers in the last quarter of the 19th century, decorated with polychrome cloisonné enamel, represents a characteristic example of Saint Petersburg jewellery art of its period. The composition and decorative language reflect the emergence of Russian Art Nouveau, distinguished by structural clarity of form, emphasis on material, and an organic synthesis of function and artistic expression. A defining feature of the spoons is the original square-section handle, which conveys a sense of solidity, functional logic, and restrained plastic expression. The spoons are housed in a wooden presentation case with velvet-lined interior.Hallmarks: Maker’s mark “Grachev”; silver fineness mark “88”; master’s mark “AP”.Dimensions: Length of each spoon approx. 14 cm.Weight: Total weight 174 g.Condition: Good. Enamel well preserved, without losses or cracks. Minor signs of age consistent with period use.Provenance: Private collection.

RUSSIAN PRESENTATION SILVER KOVSH IN ART NOUVEAU STYLE. ALEXANDER VYAKOVA. FIRM OF C. FABERGÉ SAINT PETERSBURG, EARLY 20TH CENTURY
An outstanding presentation kovsh executed in the early 20th century in the Art Nouveau style by the silversmith Alexander Vyakova for the Saint Petersburg branch of the firm of C. Fabergé. The form of the kovsh is inspired by the silhouette of an ancient Russian ladya, interpreted through the flowing lines and sculptural plasticity characteristic of Russian Art Nouveau. This national romantic imagery reflects the broader cultural revival of the period and finds visual parallels in the decorative world associated with Ivan Bilibin. The elongated body emphasizes a horizontal composition, reinforcing the symbolic reference to a ceremonial vessel. Along the sides are applied shield-shaped ornaments set with natural cabochon-cut jasper, introducing refined color accents and enhancing the decorative rhythm of the piece. The handle is sculpturally modeled to resemble the stern and rudder of an ancient vessel, underscoring the historical symbolism and presentation character of the kovsh. This object belongs to the category of ceremonial silver, intended for official gifts or representative collections, and exemplifies the exceptional artistic design and technical excellence characteristic of Fabergé silver from the early 20th century.Marks: Maker’s mark “C. Fabergé” beneath the double-headed eagle, confirming production by the Saint Petersburg branch; Saint Petersburg assay mark of 1908-1917 with the letter “a,” a woman’s head in kokoshnik turned to the right, and the fineness mark “84” within an oval shield; master’s mark “AW” in Latin letters corresponding to the silversmith Alexander Vyakova; Fabergé inventory number “18458.”Dimensions: Height 11 cm, width 13 cm, length 28 cm.Weight: 625 g.Condition: Good. Silver with natural patina. Jasper inlays intact. Minor traces of age consistent with period.Provenance: Private European collection.

ICON OF THE MOTHER OF GOD OF UMILENIE RUSSIA, MOSCOW, 16TH–17TH CENTURY
A rare icon of the Mother of God of Umilenie, created within the Moscow icon-painting tradition of the 16th–17th century. Executed in tempera on a wooden panel, the image displays refined modelling of the faces, a noble ochre palette and delicate linear highlights characteristic of the period. The composition follows the Byzantine Eleousa type, in which the tender touching of the cheeks of the Virgin and the Christ Child conveys profound spiritual compassion and intercession. The icon is set in an authentic 17th-century Moscow oklad of exceptional craftsmanship. Produced in court and monastic workshops, it displays a sophisticated combination of cloisonné and champlevé enamels, mother-of-pearl inlays, coloured glass and applied relief elements. The rich vegetal ornament, executed with remarkable rhythm and precision, reflects the aesthetic principles of Moscow decorative art of the 17th century. The reverse retains an early silk cloth with a floral pattern, a testament to centuries of careful veneration.Dimensions: 31 × 27 cm.Condition: The icon is in good collector’s condition consistent with its age. The painted surface is well preserved with minor craquelure and slight pigment losses. The oklad shows natural age traces.Provenance: Private collection of Alfred Schønebeck (1885–1931), representative of the Great Northern Telegraph Company in Russia. Acquired by Alfred and Gerda Schønebeck in Moscow in the 1920s. Exported to Denmark in 1929 and preserved in the family collection ever since.
