This richly narrated painting probably takes us back to a hunting scene at court in the late 17th or early 18th century.In the left foreground, two men on horseback are engaged in a lively conversation, while in the distance, behind them, we see a town with prominent bell towers, typical of the Flemish School of this period.On the right, we can also make out several successive shots: what appears to be a dead tree in the foreground, then a dog, then a man who seems to be gutting game, followed by another who is skinning a beast on the ground near a tent on the right, and finally the crowd of gathered soldiers in the background. In the very last shot, we can make out a large rocky massif lost in the sky and clouds.This painting offers a fascinatingly detailed composition, featuring hunters, their horses and a dense, animated landscape. The many characters in action around a wilderness camp add dynamism and depth to the overall picture. Indeed, the succession of shots is remarkable, with elements that follow one another and give real depth to this medium-format painting.The precision of the brushstrokes, almost sketches, and the intensity of the chiaroscuro effects testify to rigorous graphic preparation and a refined, elaborate pictorial approach.In this painting, a remarkable ability to assimilate the heritage of the Flemish tradition is immediately apparent, perceptible through the chromatic palette deployed and a clear predilection for drawing.The latter highlights both the richness of detail and the methodical, rational organization of each figure or object depicted.The painting has been carefully framed by DELF, a company renowned for its expertise.

Oil-Painting by Jean Thomas (1923- 2019): `A Religious Life: Tower of Babel`

Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lyon, Jean Thomas began exhibiting his works as early as 1946. Following in the footsteps of the great painters of modernity, his early paintings echo Thomass biggest influences, namely Fernand Léger and Matisse. Some articles published about him discuss the assertion of a true artistic personality, comparing him to his contemporaries: Bernard Buffet, Aizpiri, Krol, Martinet, Patrix etc. From 1955 onwards, Jean Thomas focused primarily on landscape painting, through a precise study of light and great pictorial mastery. His works bear witness to a trend: the realistic post-war landscapes. As a professional painter, he exhibited his works on numerous occasions, most notably at the Art Gallery of Place Beauvau and at the Tournelle Gallery in Paris. In total, he participated in over a hundred exhibitions in France and abroad.Enclosed in a white frame, this painting was completed by Jean Thomas on the 9th of April 2001. The reflected light gives the water a picturesque depth, while a soft glow breaks through the cloud cover, illuminating the rocky surfaces and contrasting them with the dense shadows of the forest thicket.The monumental trunks of pines towering over the landscape form a strict vertical dominant, emphasizing the power and grandeur of nature. Kamensky masterfully conveys the texture of tree bark, covered with moss, and rocky shores, creating a sense of volume.
