Golden powder box. Violettes Paris. Around 1860.
Round gold enamel powder box Violettes Paris circa 1860. On a noble, dark brown background with a golden net and antique grotesques, the lid depicts a preening nymph with a cupid adorning her hair. The vignette at the base depicts a flirtatious scene, apparently with the same cherub, dove and basket of flowers, again in pursuit of the escaping mistress. Labeled: Violettes Paris. On the inside of the rim there is a memorial date: April 18, 1880. Parisian gold hallmarks from 1838, corresponding to 750 standard, are on the bottom of the powder compact. Inside the lid there is an original mirror. Height: 3cm. length-5cm. Weight:73.94g

GOLD SNUFF BOX WITH ENAMEL MINIATURE AND PEARLS FRANCE, CIRCA 1795
A refined small oval snuff box crafted in gold and decorated with a finely executed enamel miniature. The lid is centred with an oval medallion depicting a gallant genre scene characteristic of the late 18th century: a young couple bidding farewell on the shore to a departing vessel. The theme of separation and travel reflects the sentimental sensibility of the period, situated between Late Classicism and early Pre-Romanticism.The miniature is painted with great delicacy and framed by a border of natural pearls, lending a precious rhythm and enhancing the intimate, personal character of the object. The surrounding field is enriched with deep blue enamel adorned with subtle gold ornament in the form of stylised vegetal motifs. The body of the snuff box is smooth, with a warm golden sheen; the interior is carefully polished. The object is distinguished by harmonious proportions, high-quality craftsmanship, and the refined finish typical of French goldsmiths’ workshops of the late 18th century.Marks: Two pre-Revolutionary French marks on the base: a gold assay mark and a maker’s mark; the latter is partially worn and the letters “LP” may be tentatively discerned; without later standard Napoleonic marks.Dimensions: Length: 4.7 cm.Weight: 18 g.Condition: Good.Provenance: Private European collection; formerly Sotheby’s auction.

A solemn analogion icon of the Feodorovskaya Mother of God, created in Moscow in 1890. The image belongs to the most venerated Marian shrines traditionally associated with the protection of the family and dynastic continuity. The Virgin is depicted with the Christ Child in the iconographic type known as “Eleusa,” where the gentle touching of their faces emphasizes intimacy and prayerful contemplation. The faces are executed in a warm ochre-brown palette with subtle modeling of light and shadow characteristic of Moscow icon painting of the late nineteenth century.The icon is encased in a gilt silver mount executed at the factory of Vasily Semyonov in Moscow. The mount represents a highly refined example of Moscow silversmithing of the late nineteenth century. The repoussé work on silver forms a sculptural pattern of the folds of the maphorion and chiton, creating a striking interplay of light across the metal surface. The crowns, borders, and corner elements are decorated with polychrome enamels featuring delicate vegetal and geometric ornamentation, rendered in the characteristic decorative manner of the Moscow school.Marks: Maker’s mark “VS” in Cyrillic for Vasily Semyonov; Moscow silver hallmarks of 84 standard; Assay mark with the initials “L.O” beneath a dividing line and the date “1890” for Olex Lev Fyodorovich, assay master of Moscow; State assay mark with the coat of arms of the city of Moscow.Dimensions: 31 x 27 centimeters.Material: Wood, tempera painting; gilt silver, enamel.Condition: Good.Provenance: Private collection.
