LARGE VASE WITH BRONZE MOUNTS AND PAINTED DECORATION “THE TRIUMPH OF VENUS” FRANCE, SECOND HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURY
A monumental vase combining gilt bronze and painted porcelain, representing a striking example of French decorative art of the Second Empire and the Historicist period. The oval bowl with a rich emerald-green ground is adorned with a central painted composition depicting the allegorical scene “The Triumph of Venus”, executed in the spirit of 18th century academic mythological painting. On the reverse appears an exquisite floral bouquet rendered with refined naturalism and delicate chromatic nuances.The porcelain body is mounted within an elaborate architectural framework of finely chased gilt bronze with openwork Rocaille ornamentation. The handles curve in dynamic vegetal scrolls with mascarons and ornamental cartouches. The upper rim forms an airy gallery of scrolling foliage and stylised acanthus leaves. The base is conceived as a ceremonial pedestal with a baluster stem and a four-sided support, richly decorated with relief elements and symmetrical scrollwork.The artistic conception unites elements of Neo-Rococo and Neo-Baroque, characteristic of Parisian bronze workshops of the second half of the 19th century. Stylistic features and the quality of porcelain painting suggest a connection with the traditions of the Sèvres manufactory, renowned for producing grand decorative vases and mantel ornaments for aristocratic residences.Dimensions: height 38 cm; width 54 cm; depth 32 cm.Condition: Good. Gilding even and well preserved. Minor wear to the base. No deformations, cracks, restorations or traces of active use.

A rare icon of the Mother of God of Umilenie, created within the Moscow icon-painting tradition of the 16th–17th century. Executed in tempera on a wooden panel, the image displays refined modelling of the faces, a noble ochre palette and delicate linear highlights characteristic of the period. The composition follows the Byzantine Eleousa type, in which the tender touching of the cheeks of the Virgin and the Christ Child conveys profound spiritual compassion and intercession.The icon is set in an authentic 17th-century Moscow oklad of exceptional craftsmanship. Produced in court and monastic workshops, it displays a sophisticated combination of cloisonné and champlevé enamels, mother-of-pearl inlays, coloured glass and applied relief elements. The rich vegetal ornament, executed with remarkable rhythm and precision, reflects the aesthetic principles of Moscow decorative art of the 17th century. The reverse retains an early silk cloth with a floral pattern, a testament to centuries of careful veneration.Dimensions: 31 × 27 cm.Condition: The icon is in good collector’s condition consistent with its age. The painted surface is well preserved with minor craquelure and slight pigment losses. The oklad shows natural age traces.Provenance: Private collection of Alfred Schønebeck (1885–1931), representative of the Great Northern Telegraph Company in Russia. Acquired by Alfred and Gerda Schønebeck in Moscow in the 1920s. Exported to Denmark in 1929 and preserved in the family collection ever since.

A unique example of a gold pocket watch, created in collaboration between the Swiss manufacture Le Phare and the legendary Imperial Court Supplier Pavel Bure. This extremely rare timepiece features a minute repeater, moon phase indicator, chronograph, Cyrillic calendar apertures, and a rare bridge movement with two hammers and two gongs. Case No. 72647, 59 mm in diameter, crafted in 14K rose gold, is adorned with exquisite guilloché engraving and a partially enameled Russian imperial double-headed eagle crest. The inner lids bear two historically significant inscriptions: — Dedication in Cyrillic: To dear Mitya in gratitude and 30 years of loyal friendship from V. Voronov. 1882–1912 — Signature: Pavel Bure, Supplier to the Court of His Imperial Majesty, confirming the item’s high status.The enamel dial features Roman numerals, Cyrillic calendar apertures for days and months, a date indicator, moon phase aperture, and a 30-minute chronograph counter. Signed: Tchétine et Fils. The movement is a complex bridge caliber with lever escapement, compensated balance wheel, and Swiss patent engraving No. 334. The finishing includes gilding, blued screws, and finely executed surfaces.
