A painterly work attributed to Maximilien Luce, executed in the characteristic manner of the artist’s late Impressionist phase with pronounced Neo-Impressionist elements. The composition is built upon a subtle interplay between the twilight sky and the reflective surface of the water, where the lights of the riverside architecture and the silhouettes of boats are fragmented into shimmering reflections. The color palette is based on a combination of cool blues and greens with warm yellow and orange accents, creating an effect of inner luminosity.The divided, vibrating brushstroke, closely related to the Divisionist technique, produces optical color mixing and enhances the sensation of a flickering atmospheric environment. Picturesquely intertwining over each other, the young man regales his beloved with grapes, and she, as a pledge of consent and reciprocity of ripened feelings, holds the berries on her knees.
