An intimate genre composition defined by a subtle interplay of light and shadow, characteristic of Alexander Rizzoni’s artistic circle. Within the dim interior of what appears to be a vegetable cellar, a young boy is depicted playing with several cats. Concealing a bundle of turnips behind his back, he teases a cat perched upon a worn barrel. A narrow shaft of light penetrates through a small window, illuminating the child’s gesture and animated expression, while the warm ochre and brown tonalities enhance the atmosphere of humble domesticity.Despite its apparent simplicity, the scene carries a nuanced layer of social observation consistent with Russian Realism of the second half of the nineteenth century. The artist avoids overt dramatization, instead focusing on the quiet dignity of childhood. The modest amusements of impoverished youth become a reflection on resilience and innate vitality. A Russian silver cylindrical shot cup crafted in 84 silver and richly decorated with polychrome cloisonné enamel. The exterior surface is entirely covered with an elaborate ornamental composition built on symmetrical floral and foliate motifs, incorporating stylized blossoms and scrolling elements characteristic of the Moscow silversmithing tradition of the late nineteenth century. The enamel palette features deep cobalt blue, turquoise, white and red tones, emphasized by the precise rhythm of silver cloisons. The interior surface is smooth, with a natural silver patina, creating a refined contrast with the vivid enamel decoration of the exterior. The object exemplifies a high level of craftsmanship and masterful command of the cloisonné enamel technique.Hallmarks: Maker’s mark “KLINGERT” – Gustav Gustavovich Klingert; Moscow assay mark with silver standard “84”; Assay master’s mark “A.S” – Alexander Alexeyevich Smirnov, dated 1893.Dimensions: Height 6.7 cm; Diameter 5 cm.Weight: 82 g.Condition: Good.
