Crimean landscape. Russia. Early 20th century

A delightful Crimean sketch with a view of the coastal stones, buildings and mountains on a hot summer afternoon. In the picture, the mobility of a windy day is felt. It is built on multidirectional vectors of movement of the sea, and clouds rising to the mountains. The diagonal composition is balanced by three poplar verticals and a green-roofed house that gives a sense of the presence of people. The unsteady haze of a hot day is conveyed by the mobility of the atmosphere, surf, glare of stones and running clouds. The characteristic Crimean flavor is created by the relationship of deep blue, purple tones of the sea, mountains and yellow-white stones of the walls, faded in the sun. Canvas dimensions: 34 x 28 cm.

Girv Alfred Alexandrovich (1880-1918). Still Life with Bat Game 1913. On a thick stone tabletop with a well-known tragedy, as if on a cracked gravestone, there are presented: a goblet, beaten game and fruits in a basket. Hanging tongues of guinea fowl, drake and grapes form an almost heraldic symmetry and form a compositional and semantic knot. Death: Her and His, innocent lives, lovers, family; mourned by the sacrificial blood of grapes. In the basket - the nest, the source of every life, in the apple, and the unripe green of the grapes - the pace of just begun life. But for that person only the glory and vanity of the cup.
