A mature work by Georgy Lapshin, created during his continuous artistic period on the French Riviera. The painting depicts a sandy shore with fishing boats resting by a wooden pier under the soft evening light. The transparent atmosphere, calm surface of the sea, and refined color balance create a poetic image of the Mediterranean coast. By the distinctive features of the landscape relief, the artist depicted the sandy coastline of the Bay of Cannes, where he repeatedly painted from nature.Lapshin uses broad, confident brushstrokes, combining the academic training of the Moscow school with the plein-air freedom of French painting. The palette is built on subtle blends of ochre-blue and golden tones, conveying the mood of sunset light and shimmering reflections on the water. A painterly work attributed to Maximilien Luce, executed in the characteristic manner of the artist’s late Impressionist phase with pronounced Neo-Impressionist elements. The composition is built upon a subtle interplay between the twilight sky and the reflective surface of the water, where the lights of the riverside architecture and the silhouettes of boats are fragmented into shimmering reflections. The color palette is based on a combination of cool blues and greens with warm yellow and orange accents, creating an effect of inner luminosity.The divided, vibrating brushstroke, closely related to the Divisionist technique, produces optical color mixing and enhances the sensation of a flickering atmospheric environment. Vertical accents of masts and reflections establish a rhythmic structure, balancing the свободное, almost musical movement of color fields. The pictorial approach emphasizes not topographical precision, but the evocation of transitional states of nature and the mood of dusk, a theme central to Luce’s oeuvre.
