19th Century Gilt Bronze Jewelry Box depicting Lovers from Classical Antiquity

We present you this exquisite gilded bronze box hailing from the Napoleon III period. It represents a scene from Classical Antiquity that captures the romantic rendezvous between two lovers, set against a backdrop of a woman harvesting on the right and a mans arrival by boat on the left. The couple is accompanied by a cupid, symbolising desire, erotic love, attraction and affection. The inside of the box is elegantly lined with vintage velvet fabric in gold-yellow. The sides of the box are adorned with ornamental gadroon edging. With its ornate design, it can be a stylish addition to any table or dresser and it is suitable for either keeping jewellery or correspondence.

We present you with this beautiful pair of large andirons with their gilded bronze bar. They exemplify the exuberant Napoleon III style and they originate from the late 19th century. They are signed by the renowned French bronze artisan, metalworker and manufacturer Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892). Impeccably preserved, they boast superior craftsmanship, characterised by intricate detailing and a refined gilded finish. These andirons are perfectly suited for an ornate fireplace of a château.Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810–1892) was a prominent French metalworker and founder celebrated for his exceptional contributions to the world of bronze artistry during the 19th century. Born in Paris, Barbedienne established his foundry in 1838, specialising in the production of high-quality bronze sculptures, furniture, and decorative arts. Renowned for his collaborations with renowned artists of his time, including Antoine-Louis Barye and Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, Barbedienne earned widespread acclaim for his impeccable craftsmanship and innovative casting techniques. His work was prominently showcased at international exhibitions, earning him numerous accolades, including the Legion of Honour. The legacy of Ferdinand Barbedienne endures through the exquisite and enduring bronze pieces bearing his name, exemplifying a pinnacle of artistic achievement during the 19th century.

Oil-Painting `Rhône Valley: Chapel and Keep of Mornas Castle` by Jean Thomas

Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lyon, Jean Thomas began exhibiting his works as early as 1946. Following in the footsteps of the great painters of modernity, his early paintings echo Thomass biggest influences, namely Fernand Léger and Matisse. Some articles published about him discuss the assertion of a true artistic personality, comparing him to his contemporaries: Bernard Buffet, Aizpiri, Krol, Martinet, Patrix etc. From 1955 onwards, Jean Thomas focused primarily on landscape painting, through a precise study of light and great pictorial mastery. His works bear witness to a trend: the realistic post-war landscapes. As a professional painter, he exhibited his works on numerous occasions, most notably at the Art Gallery of Place Beauvau and at the Tournelle Gallery in Paris. In total, he participated in over a hundred exhibitions in France and abroad.Enclosed in a white frame, this painting was painted by Jean Thomas on the 28th of August 1982.
