RUSSIAN SILVER BOX WITH CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL IN THE FORM OF ROOSTERS PAVEL OVCHINNIKOV FIRM, MOSCOW, 1882

A rare example of Russian jewelry art from the late 19th century — a decorative silver box in the Neo-Russian Renaissance style, created in 1882 at the Moscow workshop of the Imperial Court supplier Pavel Ovchinnikov.The box is richly decorated with polychrome cloisonné enamel on a gilded background. Its square body with chamfered corners rests on four massive bird-claw feet reminiscent of rooster talons. Particular attention is drawn to the two side handles shaped as stylized rooster heads — a vivid example of Neo-Russian decorative vocabulary.The sides are adorned with alternating arcades, floral elements, and stylized vegetal motifs. The lid is inlaid with a complex enamel medallion featuring a central monogram, framed by geometric and botanical ornaments in a blue-green palette. The interior is entirely gilded.The piece embodies the stylistic aesthetics of Russian folklore and Orthodox symbolism, masterfully executed in precious material by the finest craftsmen of the late 19th century.Marks: Moscow assay office, dated 1882, 88 standard silver, makers mark OVCHINNIKOV beneath the double-headed eagle — supplier to the Imperial Court.Dimensions: Height: 6 cm. An elegant Russian rectangular cigarette case with softly rounded corners, crafted in 14-karat gold at the St Petersburg gold and diamond workshop of Beilin & Son. The exterior is decorated with a refined geometric pattern executed in two-tone gold in the Art Nouveau style, realised through exceptionally fine chasing. The rhythmic diagonal lines create a dynamic play of light and underline the high level of surface workmanship characteristic of the finest pre-Revolutionary St Petersburg jewellery. The push-button clasp is set with a natural cabochon-cut sapphire, harmoniously integrated into the overall artistic composition. Distinguished by flawless proportions, precise fitting of components and a pronounced status character, the piece is representative of objects intended for courtly and aristocratic circles.Hallmarks: Maker’s mark “A.B” in a rectangular cartouche – Beilin & Son, Gold and Diamond Factory, St Petersburg; Oval assay mark with a female head facing left, gold standard “56” and assay letter “a”, corresponding to the St Petersburg assay office, 1908–1917.Dimensions: Length 9.8 cm; Width 6.5 cm.Weight: 129 g.Condition: Good.Provenance: Private European collection.

A highly artistic silver table service produced in the workshop of Gustav Klingert, one of the leading Moscow silversmiths of the early 20th century. Crafted in 84-standard silver, the set represents a cohesive, full-weight ensemble of ceremonial tableware, intended for use in the representative interiors of the late Russian Empire.The forms of the pieces follow the classical tradition, with softly profiled contours, balanced proportions and carefully calculated ergonomics. The handles are adorned with relief ornamentation in the spirit of historicist Baroque: elegant vegetal scrolls, stylised foliage and rocaille motifs create a sense of sculptural depth and decorative completeness. The ornamentation remains refined and restrained, organically emphasising the structure of each piece, a hallmark of the finest Moscow silver of the pre-revolutionary period.The set is distinguished by a high standard of craftsmanship: precise detailing, careful chasing, even polishing and preserved silver weight testify to the professionalism of the workshop and its orientation towards a demanding clientele.
