A striking abstract composition “Jack”, executed in 1969 in mixed media on paper, belongs to the mature period of Vladimir Nemukhin’s творчество and represents a characteristic example of his iconic card series of the late 1960s. The work demonstrates the fully сформировавшийся artistic language of the master, in which the motif of a playing card transforms from a figurative sign into a complex metaphorical construct. The composition is structured through the intersection of diagonals and vertical axes, forming a fragmented and internally tense image of the jack. The face is treated in a mirrored manner and divided into symmetrical planes, reinforcing a sense of duality, inner conflict and the instability of identity.The expressive ink line is combined with насыщенные colour accents in gouache, creating a rhythmically organised plastic structure of the sheet. Card symbols and abstract signs are integrated into the pictorial space as elements of a coherent visual system developed by the artist in the 1960s. In Nemukhin’s interpretation, the jack is not a figure of a card game but a metaphor for fate, risk, choice and historical uncertainty. The work is distinguished by a rare balance between gestural freedom, intellectual depth and strict compositional discipline, characteristic of the artist’s finest works of this period. A small circular copper ashtray, executed in stamped technique, featuring a relief depiction of the double-headed eagle - the state emblem of the Russian Empire. The central medallion presents a finely modelled composition with a crowned eagle holding a sceptre and orb, emphasizing the official and symbolic character of the object.Along the perimeter of the medallion are the inscriptions “WAR 1914” and “K. FABERGÉ”, indicating the commemorative purpose of the piece and its association with the name of the Imperial Court supplier. The typographic composition is harmoniously integrated into the relief, enhancing the decorative impact of the object.The form of the ashtray is restrained and functional: a shallow bowl with a gently profiled rim and a concentric layout that draws attention to the central motif. The warm tone of the copper accentuates the depth of the relief and lends the object a distinctive visual presence. An impressive gold cigarette case, crafted in 56 zolotnik gold (14K) by the firm E. BURKHARD, represents a high-quality and characteristic example of pre-revolutionary Russian jewellery production of the early 20th century. The piece features an expressive two-tone treatment combining yellow and rose gold and is decorated with a relief chevron pattern (gadrooned chevron), forming a clear diagonal rhythm across the surface.The geometrisation of form, pronounced constructive character of the ornament and strict organisation of planes reflect the transitional artistic language from late Art Nouveau to early Art Deco. The contrast between matte and polished surfaces enhances the decorative expressiveness and highlights the technical precision of execution.The cigarette case is fitted with a push-button clasp set with a natural sapphire cabochon, emphasising its representative and status-oriented character. The interior is fully gilded. The hinge and clasp construction shows precise fitting and reliable engineering, characteristic of high-grade factory workmanship intended for a discerning and affluent clientele, including officers and senior officials.Hallmarks: Trade mark “E. BURKHARD” in a rectangular cartouche; Saint Petersburg District Assay Office mark in an oval shield with the fineness “56”, kokoshnik head and the Greek letter “α”; Maker’s mark “VK”, attributed to an unidentified craftsman working for the firm E. Burkhard; Additional assay and control marks consistent with the pre-revolutionary standard.Dimensions: To be specified.Weight: 164.30 g.Condition: Good.
