FIREPLACE SCREEN IN THE NEO ROCOCO STYLE. EISENWERK LAUCHHAMMER GERMANY, 20TH CENTURY
FIREPLACE SCREEN IN THE NEO ROCOCO STYLE. EISENWERK LAUCHHAMMER GERMANY, 20TH CENTURY
An expressive Neo Rococo fireplace screen produced by Eisenwerk Lauchhammer, one of the most renowned centres of artistic metal casting in Germany. The piece is executed in cast iron with a bronzed surface and complemented by a painted iron panel. It combines the utilitarian function of a fireplace accessory with a richly articulated decorative program inspired by the French ornamental tradition of the 18th century. The profiled rectangular frame with rounded corners is richly adorned with openwork pierced ornamentation of rocaille and floral character. The upper section is crowned with an elaborate cartouche featuring partially sculpted winged putti, lending the composition a sense of plastic dynamism and theatrical expressiveness. The side elements are decorated with scrolling motifs and floral garlands, while the lower section rests on curved feet with rocaille motifs, forming an elegant silhouette. The central black lacquered iron panel is decorated with a painterly motif of a cornucopia filled with vibrant flowers, complemented by arabesques and green vegetal shoots. The contrast between the deep dark ground and the polychrome decoration enhances the richness of the composition and reinforces its decorative presence within an interior. The overall design reflects the spirit of historicist decorative arts, in which Rococo motifs were reinterpreted through the lens of industrial artistic production.Marks: Relief factory mark and inscription “Eisenwerk Lauchhammer”; dated “1959”; marked “Gesetzlich geschützt” - “Legally protected”.Dimensions: Approximately 114 x 62 cm.Material: Bronzed cast iron, painted iron panel.Condition: Good.
