PAIR OF EMPIRE STYLE ARMCHAIRS FRANCE, FIRST QUARTER OF THE 19TH CENTURY
A distinguished pair of Empire period armchairs crafted from mahogany and adorned with gilt bronze mounts. The chairs form an elegant semi-cylindrical volume with straight, architecturally emphatic front legs and dynamically curved rear supports. The high sweeping arms merge seamlessly into the backrests and terminate in finely cast gilt bronze ram’s heads, serving as the principal symbolic and decorative accents. The primary ornamentation is concentrated on the façade: the legs and horizontal stretchers are enriched with delicately executed grotesques echoing the ram motif, as well as arabesques with trumpeting trophies, pearls, and shells. The warm, deep tone of the polished mahogany provides a refined contrast to the brilliance of the gilt bronze. The upholstery is executed in classical patterned textile with vegetal motifs, harmoniously complementing the строгая architectural clarity of the form.Dimensions: Height: 78 cm. The structure has been stabilised, the mahogany carefully conserved, the gilt bronze mounts cleaned and secured, and the upholstery renewed with respect for the historical character of the pieces.Provenance: Private European collection.

A large ceremonial kovsh executed in silver with gilding and cloisonné polychrome enamels. The body is formed with pronounced gadrooning, each facet adorned with elaborate floral compositions of flowers and scrolling foliage. The enamels are applied on alternating grounds of green, white, and blue, creating a richly rhythmic decorative surface. The upper section is encircled by a continuous frieze of leafy and floral arabesques in cloisonné enamels set against a matte gilt ground. The interior is fully gilt, emphasizing the ceremonial character of the object. The handle and front panel are similarly decorated with floral motifs in cloisonné polychrome enamels on a sky-blue ground. The form and ornamentation reflect the Neo-Russian style combined with elements of Art Nouveau, characteristic of the Moscow school in the early 20th century.Marks: Complete maker’s mark «P. Ovtchinnikoff» with the double-headed eagle – insignia of Purveyor to the Imperial Court; State assay mark of the Moscow Assay District, 1908–1917, depicting a woman’s head in a kokoshnik facing right within an oval cartouche, accompanied by the silver standard mark “84” and the Greek letter delta (Δ), identifying the Moscow Assay District.Dimensions: Height – 13.5 cm; Length – 29.5 cm; Width – 15.5 cm.Weight: 895 g.Condition: Good. Minor wear consistent with age and use. The enamels are well preserved, without evident losses. An exquisite antique gold pocket watch of high horological complexity, created by the Swiss watchmaking house Invicta specifically for the Russian market at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The watch is housed in a substantial three-cover case crafted in 56 zolotnik gold (equivalent to 14K), finely decorated with guilloché engraving characteristic of ceremonial pocket watches of the Historicist period. The watch is accompanied by its original gold chain and presented in an original leather fitted case bearing the mark of the Moscow retailer.The movement is distinguished by exceptional technical sophistication and incorporates a quarter repeater, chronograph, full calendar with Cyrillic inscriptions in Russian (date, day of the week and month), as well as a moon phase indicator. The presence of a Cyrillic calendar and Russian gold standard clearly indicates that the watch was manufactured expressly for the Russian Empire. The enamel dial, with Roman numerals, subsidiary registers and finely shaped gilt hands, exemplifies the highest standards of late 19th-century Swiss watchmaking.The inner case back is engraved with medals awarded at the international exhibitions in Bordeaux in 1895 and Paris in 1896, bearing the inscription “Diplôme d’Honneur” and the Invicta motto, confirming the brand’s international prestige and recognition. This watch represents a rare and highly desirable example of Swiss export production adapted to the tastes and requirements of the Russian market.Hallmarks: Rectangular hallmark “56” (56 zolotnik gold, Russian Empire); “14K” gold mark; engraved Invicta awards and exhibition inscriptions; original retailer markings in the fitted case – Trading House “M.P.
