TWO-TONE GOLD NEOCLASSICAL SNUFFBOX FRANCE, LATE 19TH CENTURY, CIRCA 1890s

An elegant elongated oval snuffbox crafted in two-tone gold, executed in a restrained Neoclassical style. The surfaces of the case are decorated with fine longitudinal engraving, emphasizing the clarity of proportions and the architectural character of the form. A decorative frieze of vegetal garlands runs along the perimeter of the lid and body, executed in a contrasting tone of gold. The sides are accentuated with applied lyre motifs, characteristic of the Neoclassical repertoire and directly referencing the aesthetic language of 18th-century French decorative arts. The restrained ornamentation and high quality of execution reflect the refined taste of the Belle Époque and the traditions of French goldsmithing at the end of the 19th century.Hallmarks: French assay marks on the inner side of the lid, including a maker’s mark in a lozenge-shaped cartouche, the principal state gold assay mark, and an additional state control mark of abstract form, characteristic of the French hallmarking system of the late 19th century.Dimensions: Length: 101.5 mm; Width: 37.2 mm; Height: 31 mm.Weight: 154.1 g.Condition: Good.Provenance: Private collection.

A ceremonial pair of silver seven-light candelabra executed in the spirit of Historicism with a clear reference to Baroque forms and proportions. The composition is distinguished by a monumental silhouette, rich sculptural modeling and balanced architectural structure. The massive shaped bases, decorated with volutes and acanthus motifs, support tall baluster stems rising into an elaborate branched crown with gracefully curved S-shaped arms. The relief ornament enhances the play of light across the polished silver surface. Such pieces were conceived for grand interiors of the fin de siècle period.Hallmarks: Maker’s mark of an Italian silver workshop in the form of a hexagonal shield, a traditional type of workshop mark used in Northern Italy at the end of the 19th – early 20th century. Italian state assay mark indicating silver fineness “800”.Dimensions: Height: 50 cm; Width: 43 cm; Depth: 43 cm.Weight: Total weight of the pair: 1,780 g.Condition: Good. Even, attractive patina. A large museum-level salon vase produced at the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory after a model by the distinguished sculptor and modeller Ernst August Leuteritz. The monumental form, rooted in Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque traditions, is conceived as an elongated baluster set on a profiled circular foot with a broad, stable base.The vase is constructed in two parts and displays a pronounced architectural silhouette. The high neck with a richly articulated rim is decorated with an ornamental frieze and a sculptural “pearl” moulding. Two powerful scroll handles, accentuated with gilded mounts, create a ceremonial and symmetrical rhythm. The lower body and base are enriched with finely modelled acanthus leaves, lavishly highlighted with gilding and executed with exceptional precision.The body is covered in a deep royal cobalt glaze, characteristic of Meissen’s prestigious works of the nineteenth century. On the central reserves, finely painted polychrome floral bouquets depicting roses and chrysanthemums are rendered in a highly accomplished overglaze technique. The painterly treatment reveals subtle tonal gradations, delicate modelling of petals and foliage, and a refined chromatic balance. Rich gilding frames the composition and enhances the overall impression of opulence and decorative splendour.Marks: Underglaze blue crossed swords mark of the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory; first quality mark.Dimensions: Height: 60 cm.
