DECAGONAL GOBLET IN PURPLE CRYSTAL WITH GILT DECORATION ST PETERSBURG, 1810s IMPERIAL GLASS FACTORY
DECAGONAL GOBLET IN PURPLE CRYSTAL WITH GILT DECORATION ST PETERSBURG, 1810s IMPERIAL GLASS FACTORY
A rare example of Russian artistic glass from the reign of Alexander I, produced at the Imperial Glass Factory in St Petersburg. The decagonal bowl of deep purple crystal is raised on a slender baluster stem and an octagonal foot, emphasizing the architectural clarity of its form. The interior of the bowl is enriched with a rich amethyst tone, creating a striking contrast with the black exterior ground and the exceptionally refined gilded decoration. The ornamentation features elegant scenes of a children’s festivity executed in gold painting on glass. The figures of children, depicted in light and graceful movement, resonate with the aesthetics of the early Empire style and the sentimental iconography of the early nineteenth century. The composition is further enhanced by garlands and laurel wreaths symbolizing virtue, joy, and celebration. The restraint of the silhouette and the filigree precision of the ornament reflect a high level of artistic mastery and the characteristic synthesis of Classical decorative programs associated with the Imperial Glass Factory.Hallmarks: None identified. Attribution based on stylistic and technological characteristics of the Imperial Glass Factory production.Dimensions: Height 20 cm.Condition: Good. Gilding even throughout. CHINESE EXPORT GILT SILVER TEA SERVICE WITH ENAMELS AND CABOCHONS CHINA, EARLY 20TH CENTURY
CHINESE EXPORT GILT SILVER TEA SERVICE WITH ENAMELS AND CABOCHONS CHINA, EARLY 20TH CENTURY
An elegant Chinese export tea service crafted in silver with rich interior and partial exterior gilding, representing a refined example of early 20th century decorative art created for the European market. The ensemble demonstrates harmonious proportions and balanced symmetry: a pear-shaped teapot with an elongated curved spout and sculptural handle, eight cups, and an oval tray forming a complete ceremonial set.The surfaces are lavishly decorated with repoussé and chased foliate scrollwork enhanced by polychrome enamels. The handle and spout are accented with vivid green and blue enamel details. The interiors of the cups and teapot are finished in mirror-like gilding, creating a warm golden luminosity.Hallmarks: Maker’s mark in the form of a swan; stamped “SILVER”.Dimensions: Teapot – 23 × 19 cm; Tray – 38.5 × 26 cm; Cups – 4.8 × 5.5 cm.Weight: 1513 g.Condition: Good.
