SILVER LADLE IN THE FORM OF A SLAVIC BOAT WITH A WARRIOR FIGURE SAZIKOV, MOSCOW, 1891

A rare silver ladle shaped as a stylized Slavic boat, crafted by the renowned Sazikov firm in 1891. The sculptural body is adorned with chased ornament resembling scaled boat plating. The bow is decorated with volutes centered by a warrior’s shield, while the handle takes the form of a pine cone garland topped by a seated warrior in full armour and helmet, sword in hand. The interior is richly fire-gilt, evoking the shimmering seabed.The piece is a sculptural interpretation of the legendary boat of Sadko, the epic Novgorodian gusli player and seafarer. The figure of the warrior seated at the stern evokes Sadko himself — a poetic and heroic symbol of the Russian spirit.Marks:Full mark of the Sazikov firm with the Imperial double-headed eagle, indicating supplier status to the Imperial Court; Moscow assay mark with initials “L.O” over 1891 (unidentified assayer active 1890–1895); city mark of Moscow (St. George slaying the dragon) in a rectangular shield with cut corners; silver purity mark “84” in rectangular shield.Dimensions:Height: 28 cm; Width: 42 cm; Depth: 17 cm.Weight:2.544 kg.Condition:Excellent museum condition. Fire-gilding slightly darkened from age; clear marks. No losses to sculptural or decorative elements. Later suspension hole.Provenance:Private collection.

Disk music box, 19th century, in a wooden case, with singing birds - marquetry in the frame panel, corner balusters and strongly extended cornices of the lid and pedestal. Two cam mechanism in excellent condition. Movement serial number 99289. Includes 15 discs (diameter 30 cm). With melodies by European composers in a separate wooden box with handles. Case size: HSHG 24x49x37 cm. A complete revision of the mechanism has been carried out. Presumably manufactured by I.Ch. Detmering Hamburg.

NUDE RECLINING WOMAN, RUSSIA, LATE 19TH CENTURY

An oval oil painting on cardboard, executed in the style of Russian Art Nouveau and the “World of Art” circle. The composition features a nude woman reclining in a relaxed pose on a bed, holding a book, her head resting on a pink pillow. The setting, with its delicate drapery, carved headboard, and silver tea service, evokes the refined domestic interiors of the Rococo era. The brushwork is soft and pastose, emphasizing the sensuality of the figure and the decorative richness of the surroundings. In the lower right corner appears the signature “K. Somov” and the date “1897.” The painting is presented in a gilt oval frame with a light blue museum-quality mat. On the reverse is an old collector’s label inscribed in ink: “K. Somov, 1869–1939,” framed by a decorative blue border.Dimensions: Painting: 30 × 37 cm. Frame: approximately 50 × 60 cmMaterial: Oil on cardboardCondition: Good condition.
