An elegant rectangular match safe crafted in 56 zolotnik gold, representing a refined example of Russian decorative metalwork at the turn of the 20th century. The front surface is adorned with a radiating guilloché pattern, creating a dynamic interplay of light and enhancing the sculptural quality of the form. The composition is accentuated by an oval inset of dark stone, likely glass or a semi-precious material, serving as a decorative focal point. The construction is functional and precise: the interior cavity is designed to house a matchbox, while the корпус demonstrates high craftsmanship and careful finishing. A luxurious silver champagne cooler, executed in finely chased and stamped decoration, represents an expressive example of ceremonial tableware of the Historicism period, incorporating elements of Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque. The oval body with a subtle conical taper is articulated by vertical fluting, emphasizing the architectural clarity and elegance of the silhouette.The central cartouches are adorned with elaborate foliate ornament composed of acanthus scrolls and shell motifs. Beneath the rim runs a relief frieze with a Rocaille pattern. Particularly striking are the massive cast handles in the form of fantastical dragons with outstretched wings, curved necks, and finely modeled heads. The sculptural plasticity of the handles contrasts with the smooth polished surfaces of the body, creating a dynamic play of light across the silver.The base is profiled and enriched with engraved ornament, providing both visual balance and structural stability. The object was intended for cooling champagne bottles in ice and served as an essential element of formal table settings among the upper classes and aristocratic receptions.Marks: Require clarification following visual inspection and expert examination.Dimensions: Height 21.5 cm. An elegant silver sculptural composition depicting a harlequin standing on a barrel and holding a woven basket. The figure is conceived in the spirit of the theatrical commedia dell’arte, combining lively genre character with the decorative inventiveness of late Historicism. The character is dressed in a typical stage costume with relief buttons and a pointed cap. The surface of the costume is enriched with cabochon inserts of turquoise and colored glass, creating a vivid decorative effect and emphasizing the stylization after Renaissance and Neo-Renaissance models.The sculpture is distinguished by expressive facial features, confident modeling of drapery, and refined detailing. The base is designed as a barrel with an imitation of wooden staves and metal hoops, enhancing the theatrical and narrative quality of the composition. Such works are characteristic of Hanau silver workshops of the second half of the 19th century, which gained international recognition for their virtuoso reproductions and free historical interpretations of Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo forms. In Hanau, a distinct school of decorative silver developed, combining technical mastery, artistic imagination, and a collector-driven interest in historical styles.Hallmarks: Maker’s mark “G.R.” under a crown - Georg Roth & Co., Hanau; additional stylized maker’s mark; assay marks in the tradition of Hanau workshops.
