A decorative pair of candelabra executed in the form of cupids represents a refined example of French bronze casting from the Historicism period, strongly influenced by the Neorococo aesthetic. Each figure is cast in bronze and finished with a rich gilt surface, emphasizing the sculptural modeling, soft anatomical treatment, and high level of craftsmanship. The cupids are depicted in lively, dynamic poses with gently twisted bodies, creating a sense of movement and visual rhythm.The figures hold candle branches shaped as cornucopia, adorned with garlands of grapevines and bunches of grapes, traditional symbols of abundance, prosperity, and joy. The details are finely executed, with carefully modeled vine leaves, grapes, and textured surfaces. A PAIR OF ROCOCO REVIVAL VASES WITH GALLANT SCENES FRANCE, SECOND HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURY

A pair of decorative porcelain vases executed in a sumptuous Rococo Revival manner, richly embellished with sculptural relief and extensive gilding. The complex, multi-profiled bodies are raised on high Baroque-style pedestals with tiered bases adorned with cartouches, scrolls and shell motifs. The vessels are articulated by vertical panels alternating deep emerald-green grounds with lavish gilt ornament and finely painted pictorial reserves.The front and reverse of each vase are decorated with delicately executed multi-figure gallant scenes set in park landscapes, depicting courtly encounters with architectural elements, trees and fountains. The painting is distinguished by a vivid palette, refined rendering of costumes and expressive figures, enhancing the theatrical and decorative character of the compositions. The vases are fitted with elegant scrolling handles, richly gilded and harmoniously integrated into the overall silhouette. By their forms, sculptural treatment and painted decoration, the ensemble is stylistically inspired by the traditions of the Jacob Petit manufactory.Dimensions: Height: 40 cm; Width: 24 cm; Depth: 16 cm.Material: Porcelain, polychrome painting, applied relief, gilding.Condition: Good, with signs of age and use. The painting Boy with a Flute, dated 1841 and signed “Neff. 1841,” is a characteristic example of the early period of Carl Timoleon von Neff — an eminent representative of the academic school of mid-19th-century painting, whose artistic activity bridged the traditions of St. Petersburg, Dresden, and Paris. In this work, the artist embodies a quintessential Romantic image of a young shepherd, symbolizing simplicity and the inner purity of human nature in harmony with the natural world.The composition is built on a delicate balance between figure and landscape. The luminous distance creates an impression of airy perspective, while soft lighting reveals the velvety surface and warm palette typical of the Baltic-German school of painting. The emotional expression in the boy’s gaze, the gentle modelling of the face, and the meticulous treatment of the attire demonstrate Neff’s mature craftsmanship, shaped under the influence of Western European classicism and the sentimental realism of the Biedermeier period.A graduate of the Dresden Academy and a pupil of Paul Delaroche in Paris, Carl Timoleon von Neff became one of the leading portrait and religious painters of Imperial Russia. His works adorned the interiors of St Isaac’s Cathedral and the palaces of the Imperial family. Yet early genre scenes such as this are extremely rare, reflecting Neff’s personal interest in the human figure outside the ceremonial context — in the poetics of everyday life and the idealized image of childhood.Boy with a Flute occupies a special place in Neff’s oeuvre as a transitional work between his academic formation and the emergence of his distinctive artistic language — marked by refined drawing and transparent coloration. Comparable compositions and figure types are found in Russian and German museum collections, including the State Hermitage, the Art Museum of Estonia, and former Königsberg collections.Hallmarks: Artist’s signature in red paint at lower left: “Neff. 1841.”Dimensions: 90 × 78 cm.Material: Oil on canvas.Condition: Good.
