SILVER BEER TANKARD WITH IMPERIAL BATTLE SCENES GERMANY, FIRST HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURY

A monumental silver lidded beer tankard executed in the expressive manner of Historicist Baroque. The cylindrical body is adorned with a continuous high-relief frieze depicting a large-scale battle composition. The dynamic scene presents cuirassed horsemen wearing plumed helmets, infantry soldiers in wide-brimmed felt hats, standard-bearers and military musicians. The masterful modelling conveys tension, movement and the dramatic climax of combat.The upper and lower bands of the body are decorated with relief ornament of fruits, acorns and foliage symbolising abundance and martial virtue. The base is profiled with a pronounced serrated edge. The domed lid is embellished with vegetal motifs and crowned by a large spherical finial in the form of a stylised fruit. The interior is gilt. The richly ornamented S-shaped handle with scrolling and floral elements incorporates a functional thumb-piece mechanism for lifting the lid.Hallmarks: Not identified or possibly lost due to age and use.Dimensions: Height: 25 cm; Width: 19.5 cm; Base diameter: 15.5 cm.Weight: 806 g.Condition: Good. Round gold enamel powder box Violettes Paris circa 1860. On a noble, dark brown background with a golden net and antique grotesques, the lid depicts a preening nymph with a cupid adorning her hair. The vignette at the base depicts a flirtatious scene, apparently with the same cherub, dove and basket of flowers, again in pursuit of the escaping mistress. Labeled: Violettes Paris. On the inside of the rim there is a memorial date: April 18, 1880. Parisian gold hallmarks from 1838, corresponding to 750 standard, are on the bottom of the powder compact. Inside the lid there is an original mirror. Height: 3cm. length-5cm. Weight:73.94g

Icon 12 principal Christian feastIn the central part of the icon is the Introduction to the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows and Virgin Mary. In the center of the icon is the three-year-old Virgin Mary, who was brought to the temple by Her parents - Joachim and Anna. For a long time they were childless and took a vow: if the Lord gives them parental happiness, then they will devote the Infant to God. It was a sacrifice - to give their only, long-awaited child. The icon shows the fulfillment of a promise: Joachim and Anna bring little Mary to the temple, where the Jerusalem priest meets the family. According to Church Tradition, he was the righteous Zacharias, the future father of John the Baptist, therefore, on the icon, his head is surrounded by a halo.
