Sculptural composition entitled The Eye by J. Jeschke, executed in bronze with contrasting patination. The work is conceived through the interplay of concise geometric volumes and a readily recognisable anthropomorphic image, reduced by the artist to a vocabulary of highly simplified forms.
Viewed from the front, the composition evokes a stylised human profile. The principal rectangular volume defines the plane of the face, while an almond-shaped element projecting beyond its contours forms the striking motif of the eye. The contrast between the golden-toned bronze surfaces and the dark patina emphasises the structural articulation of the form and enhances the graphic quality of the silhouette. A narrow horizontal aperture in the facial plane provides a secondary sculptural accent, lending the work the character of an abstracted mask.
The composition reflects the modernist sculptural pursuit of a synthesis between sculpture, sign and architectural form. The deliberate rejection of naturalistic modelling allows The Eye to be perceived simultaneously as a human profile and as an autonomous abstract-geometric construction.
