An impressive decorative jardinière dating from the turn of the 20th century, executed in cast and chased gilt bronze and fitted with a substantial amber glass liner. The oval glass insert, finished with a scalloped rim, is enclosed within an openwork gilt bronze mount, richly ornamented with finely modelled acanthus scrolls, cartouches and Rocaille motifs. Elegant shaped side handles provide both practicality and visual balance, reinforcing the harmonious symmetry of the composition. The jardinière is raised on four finely cast scrolling feet united by a decorative central stretcher, lending the piece both stability and sculptural refinement. The rich amber hue of the heavy glass contrasts beautifully with the warm brilliance of the gilt bronze, creating a striking decorative effect characteristic of the Belle Époque. Conceived as an elegant centrepiece, the jardinière was intended for displaying floral arrangements or ornamental plants within reception rooms, winter gardens and refined domestic interiors.
