An impressive French crystal pitcher with a sterling silver mount, created at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. A superb example of Belle Époque decorative glass, combining the exceptional quality of French crystal with the refined craftsmanship of French silversmiths. Intended for serving lemonade, punch, fruit cup and other chilled beverages, this elegant vessel epitomises the sophisticated table culture of fin de siècle Europe.
The generously proportioned crystal body is distinguished by its harmonious silhouette, emphasising the remarkable brilliance and clarity of the material. The broad neck is fitted with a substantial sterling silver mount enriched with finely modelled Rocaille ornament in the Louis XV Revival taste. Flowing asymmetrical scrolls, graceful contours and a carefully shaped pouring lip demonstrate the exceptional quality of the silversmith`s workmanship. Beyond its decorative appeal, the silver mount reinforces the most delicate part of the crystal vessel, ensuring both durability and functionality.
Pitchers of this type formed an essential element of formal table settings during elegant luncheons, garden parties and aristocratic receptions, where they were used for serving chilled lemonade, fruit punch, sangria and infused water.
