A brilliant-cut diamond is a faceted diamond cut to specific proportions and facet arrangements designed to maximise brilliance, dispersion and scintillation. Diamond consists of crystalline carbon and has a hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale. The principal factors in the gemmological and market assessment of diamonds are carat weight, colour, clarity and cut quality, traditionally referred to as the 4Cs: Carat, Color, Clarity and Cut.
