An elegant Russian silver spoon of the early 20th century, executed in the Russian Revival style, with sculptural decoration inspired by Ivan Shishkin’s celebrated painting Morning in a Pine Forest (1889).

The elongated stem is naturalistically modelled as a tree trunk with textured bark, terminating in an openwork sculptural composition depicting two playful bear cubs among intertwined branches. The contrast between the smooth oval bowl and the richly textured stem lends the piece the character of a miniature animalier sculpture.

Hallmarks: Moscow assay mark for 84 zolotnik silver, 1908–1917. Maker’s mark “АП” within a rectangular punch, tentatively attributed to the manufactory of Andrei Mikhailovich Postnikov.

It draws on Old Russian architecture, icon painting, and folk art, integrating them with the principles of Art Nouveau and Symbolism in architecture, painting, and the decorative arts.
