A monumental porcelain pedestal column produced by the renowned Swedish manufactory Gustavsberg represents an outstanding example of Historicist decorative arts enriched with pronounced Neoclassical influences. The architectural composition draws inspiration from the classical orders: the tall cylindrical shaft is articulated with vertical fluting and raised on a substantial polygonal moulded base. The gently undulating outline of the upper platform lends the composition both sculptural refinement and architectural balance.
Porcelain pedestal columns of this type were conceived to display monumental vases, sculpture, jardinieres and other decorative works of art within grand reception rooms, aristocratic residences, winter gardens and formal interiors. Its restrained architectural vocabulary, monumental proportions and exceptional quality of manufacture make this piece an elegant interior element, equally suited to Historicist, Neoclassical and Art Nouveau settings.
Marks: Manufacturer`s mark of Gustavsberg.
Dimensions: Height: 99 cm. Width: 42 cm.
Condition: Good collector`s condition. Minor traces of age and use are visible on the upper platform, consistent with the age of the piece, without detracting from its artistic presence or decorative appeal.
