A miniature silver kovsh created in the Moscow workshop of Feodor Rückert for the firm of Carl Fabergé, representing a refined example of early 20th-century Russian jeweller’s art. The compact and intimate scale underscores its collectible character and its place among finely executed objects of small decorative form.

The rounded body is covered in rich polychrome cloisonné enamel on silver. The ornamental composition is structured around stylised floral rosettes with amber-brown centres encircled by deep blue enamel beads, alternating with symmetrical white and lilac petals accented in green. The sky-blue ground enhances the decorative unity of the design and lends the composition the lightness characteristic of the Russian Modern style. Fine wire partitions create a precise graphic structure, highlighting the virtuosity of execution.

The handle, formed as a flat plaque, is decorated with geometric motifs. Triangular elements filled with translucent plique-à-jour enamel and circular accents in deep blue and emerald tones contrast vividly against the dark oxidised background. The combination of cloisonné and plique-à-jour enamel demonstrates the high technical mastery and distinctive style of Rückert’s workshop, renowned for its collaboration with the House of Fabergé.

Miniature silver kovshi with enamel decoration occupy a distinctive position within Fabergé’s artistic programme of the early 20th century. The Moscow branch of the firm, closely collaborating with leading enamellers including Feodor Rückert, became a centre for the revival and reinterpretation of cloisonné enamel within the framework of Russian National Romanticism and the Russian Modern movement. During this period, a recognisable Moscow style emerged, characterised by saturated colour harmonies, dense ornamental rhythm, and references to Old Russian and Pan-Slavic decorative sources.

Feodor Rückert was regarded as one of the most accomplished cloisonné enamel masters of his generation. His works are distinguished by refined wirework, complex chromatic palettes, and the integration of multiple enamelling techniques, including plique-à-jour. Objects of intimate scale such as this kovsh were intended as refined presentation pieces and collectible works of art, reflecting the cultivated taste for national stylistic expression within the broader European Art Nouveau context.

Collector’s condition consistent with age. Minor enamel chips along the rim and within individual cells. Silver structurally sound, without deformation.
