A decorative lozenge-shaped liqueur decanter with a clear glass body overlaid in rich ruby glass. The surface is intricately wheel-engraved with a naturalistic design of grapevine leaves, tendrils and clusters, revealing the transparent underlying layer and creating a striking contrast against the deep ruby ground.

The flattened faceted body tapers gracefully towards a tall neck mounted with a profiled silver collar. The decanter retains its original screw-mounted stopper with a ruby overlay glass finial, engraved en suite with the decoration of the body.

The combination of coloured overlay glass, deep wheel engraving and finely crafted silver mounts is characteristic of high-quality tableware produced during the second half of the nineteenth century. The vine motif, traditionally associated with wine, abundance and prosperity, harmoniously reflects the vessel`s intended function.

Hallmarks: The silver mounts bear the maker`s mark of Pavel Ovchinnikov? No. The accepted Russian text states: the maker`s mark of P. A. Khlebnikov with the Imperial double-headed eagle, the Moscow 84 zolotnik silver assay mark for 1895, together with the assay master`s mark of A. A. Artsybashev (Anatoly Apollonovich Artsybashev).
