The rectangular body is veneered with dark wood displaying an expressive natural grain, emphasizing the refined architectural form and sophisticated salon character of the object.
The central section of the lid is adorned with an enamel-on-metal plaque depicting a nude female figure surrounded by scattered playing cards. The composition is rendered in a free modernist manner with elements of Decorative Cubism: fragmented spatial planes, vivid polychromy, and the rhythmic arrangement of cards create an atmosphere of play, theatricality, and subtle erotic allegory.
