Karl Karlovich Blank (1860–1923) was a Finnish citizen, a 2nd guild merchant, and the owner of a gold and silver workshop. His workshop was located at various addresses in St. Petersburg: Gorokhovaya Street, 36 (1885); Zimin Lane, 4 (1894); Ekaterininsky Canal, 23 (1915). From 1892 to 1911, Blank worked as a leading master in the workshop of the supplier to the imperial court, Karl Hahn, and from 1908 to 1911 he was a partner in the firm K. Hahn. After the death of Dmitry Hahn (1911), he continued to independently fulfill orders from the Cabinet of His Imperial Majesty, specializing in the creation of diamond order badges, ladies of state and maids of honor badges, pectoral crosses and gifts for special occasions.

The cigarette case is preserved in excellent condition, with no visible dents, scratches, or signs of restoration. The gold surface retains its original finish and crisp detailing of the engraved patterns. The sapphire cabochon is intact and securely set. All diamonds on the imperial double-headed eagle are present and securely mounted. The hinge and closure mechanism function perfectly. Accompanied by its original presentation case by the firm K. Hahn.
