Excellent genre work Brotherly Love, brushes of the famous German artist Otto Brandt. Depicts a touching scene of love, protection and care of children and pigeons; compassion for all living things. It unfolds in one of the basements of Rome, in a poor shelter of sweet Italian poverty. Signed below, on the left, indicating the location in Rome. Dated 1856. Dimensions: 33.5 x 26.7 cm.

Historical background: Otto Brandt was a genre and landscape painter of German origin, educated at the Royal Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin from 1843 to 1851. From 1850 to 1852 he worked as an illustrator in Berlin. From 1850 to 1856 he took part in exhibitions at the Berlin Academy, and around 1853 he studied in Paris at the Leon Cogniet studio.
