A rectangular cigarette case with a folding compartment, a hole for the cable and a silver chain, decorated with notched and painted enamel with a picture of a woman with a child collecting water from a river on a bridge.

Made in Moscow in the workshop of the court manufacturer Pavel Ovchinnikov in 1876.


Hallmarks: letters PO” in an oval, a double-headed eagle in a circle above the inscription P. Ovchinnikov, a digital designation of the sample 91” image of George the Victorious on a horse turned to the right corresponding to the city hallmark of the city of Moscow; assay stamp with the initials of assay master VS (Savinkov Victor) and the year 1876

The Pavel Ovchinnikov Factory was one of the leading jewellery enterprises in Moscow in the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries and an official Supplier to the Imperial Court. The firm specialised in artistic silver and cloisonné and painted enamels, establishing a benchmark for the Russian National Style and the Moscow school of enamelling.
