An elegant hourglass set within a silver architectural frame, designed in the tradition of European Neoclassicism. The composition follows classical architectural principles: two circular platforms are joined by four slender columns crowned with expressive Corinthian capitals. The upper and lower bands are embellished with finely engraved decoration featuring star motifs and stylised vegetal ornamentation. The columns are enriched with relief foliate decoration, emphasising the refinement of the form and the architectural harmony of the object.
The classically shaped glass vessel is filled with fine grey sand. The contrast between the noble lustre of silver and the transparency of glass highlights both the decorative and functional character of the piece. Objects of this type continued the tradition of refined desk accessories, intended to adorn writing tables, libraries and private interiors.
