ANTIQUE 20thC FRENCH 18K GOLD & ENAMEL VANITY CASE, VAN CLEEF & ARPELS c.1930
Antique early-20th Century French 18k gold & enamel compact with a suspended lipstick holder, of rectangular shape, decorated throughout with stylized art deco, geometrical design and filled with champleve enamel. Hallmarked French small guarantee mark, eagle head 3 (750 standard), Maker VC&A in a lozenge (Van Cleff & Arpels), inventory numbers; 5582, 6404. A world renowned French jeweler, watch, and perfume company. It was founded in 1896 by Alfred Van Cleef and his uncle Salomon Arpels in Paris. Their pieces often feature flowers, animals, and fairies, and have been worn by style icons such as Farah Pahlavi, the Duchess of Windsor, Grace Kelly, and Elizabeth Taylor.
