An impressive French three door display cabinet dating from the late nineteenth century, executed in the Louis XV style, represents an outstanding example of historicist decorative furniture. Crafted in mahogany, the cabinet is raised on elegant cabriole legs. The central and side doors are fully glazed, providing an unobstructed view of the interior, which is fitted with glass display shelves.
The lower section of the façade is enriched with finely painted panels depicting elegant fêtes galantes inspired by eighteenth century French painting, each framed by refined gilt bronze surrounds. The shaped crest is crowned by an elaborate pierced cartouche of finely chased gilt bronze with Rocaille ornament. Delicate gilt bronze mouldings and applied mounts articulate the contours of the cabinet, enhancing its fluid silhouette and demonstrating the exceptional quality of its craftsmanship.
Combining refined ornamentation with practical functionality, the cabinet was conceived for the display of fine porcelain, silver, art glass and other valuable works of decorative art. Owing to its imposing scale and distinguished proportions, it forms a striking focal point within a classic interior.
