An elegant silver-plated sweetmeat basket with a removable glass liner, made in Europe during the 20th century. The object is distinguished by its expressive sculptural silhouette, in which the romantic lightness of the openwork basket is combined with the dynamic curve of the tall handle and the gently flared form of the glass bowl.
The metal mount forms an elegant framework of soft, flowing lines, enhancing the airy character of the composition. The high arched handle visually balances the rounded volume of the glass liner, creating a harmonious silhouette characteristic of mid-20th-century decorative arts. The transparent glass provides an effective contrast with the refined silvery sheen of the plated metal, intensifying the play of light and emphasising the decorative quality of the piece.
The basket was intended for serving sweets, fruit or small desserts and would complement both classical and contemporary interiors. Combining functionality with refined sculptural design, it is of interest both as a decorative table object and as a collectible example of European metalwork.
