An exquisite hanging oil lamp executed after an original design by Sergei Ivanovich Vashkov, one of the leading masters of Moscow Art Nouveau and a key reformer of ecclesiastical artistic language in the early 20th century. The composition is distinguished by its refined architectonics and a carefully balanced interplay between structural clarity and decorative expressiveness. A domed finial surmounted by a cross crowns a system of chains supporting a circular mount with a central deep-blue glass vessel. The lower section is adorned with suspended chains bearing green glass beads and a Chi-Rho cross, referencing early Christian symbolism. The lamp exemplifies Vashkov’s characteristic synthesis of Byzantine tradition, Old Russian heritage, and Art Nouveau aesthetics.

Vashkov’s appointment as artistic director in 1901 marked a decisive moment in the firm’s history, elevating its production to a new artistic level while preserving the highest standards of craftsmanship. It was during this period that the firm produced its most distinguished works, combining technical excellence with authorial design and contemporary artistic vision.
The publication of this lamp in a specialized 1911 album confirms its status as a model piece. Its association with Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna underscores both the prestige of the commission and the ideological context of the era, when church art was regarded as a carrier of spiritual and national values. Overall good condition. Brass surface with a natural aged patina, without deformation or losses. Glass vessel and decorative beads fully preserved; original chains and fittings intact and functional.
