An elegant English smoking set comprising a cigarette case and a match safe, crafted in sterling silver (925 standard) and decorated with translucent guilloché enamel. Produced by the Birmingham firm J. Gloster Ltd., active from the early twentieth century through the 1930s, the ensemble is a refined example of Edwardian silverwork and the luxury personal accessories characteristic of the period.
Both pieces are embellished with a finely engine-turned sunburst guilloché pattern beneath a layer of translucent cobalt-blue enamel. The radiating motif creates a remarkable optical depth, while the rich blue enamel accentuates the brilliance of the silver. The restrained geometry and impeccable craftsmanship embody the understated elegance associated with the finest English decorative arts of the early twentieth century.
