An elegant Russian silver tea strainer crafted in Moscow by the 11th Artel between 1908 and 1917. This refined object is a characteristic example of late Russian Art Nouveau silverwork, where traditional enamelling techniques were reinterpreted through the decorative language of the early twentieth century.

The strainer features a circular pierced bowl with finely perforated working surface and an elegant elongated handle terminating in a practical thumb rest, ensuring comfortable handling during use. Its design combines functional refinement with the graceful decorative qualities characteristic of Russian silver produced during the final years of the Imperial period.

The front of the handle is decorated with richly coloured polychrome enamel depicting a stylised floral composition executed in vibrant shades of green, red, blue and white. The flowing vegetal ornament and sinuous lines embody the aesthetics of Russian Art Nouveau, inspired by national decorative traditions and the organic forms of nature. The luminous enamel contrasts beautifully with the polished silver, creating a harmonious and highly decorative composition.

Silver tea strainers of this quality formed an integral part of refined Russian tea culture in the early twentieth century and were commonly included in luxurious tea services intended for affluent households and formal entertaining. Combining practical utility with exceptional craftsmanship and artistic refinement, such pieces are today highly sought after by collectors of Imperial Russian silver and represented in important museum collections.

CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL
Cloisonné enamel is one of the most complex and visually expressive enameling techniques in decorative and applied arts. It is based on the creation of an ornamental design formed by thin metal partitions filled with colored enamel compounds. This technique allows for exceptional clarity of ornament, rich polychromy, and a distinctive jewel-like graphic quality of the surface.
