A rare sterling silver cream jug by the celebrated American jeweller Tiffany & Co., masterfully conceived in the form of a fish. The sculptural body is finely modelled with meticulously chased scales, fins and facial details, while the elegantly curved handle is ingeniously fashioned as the fishs tail, creating a harmonious union of sculptural artistry and practical design.
Produced between 1947 and 1965, this model represents an outstanding example of post-war American silver craftsmanship. It reflects Tiffany & Co.s distinctive design philosophy of the period, in which organic natural forms are interpreted through the refined vocabulary of mid-century modernism. Functional silverware was elevated beyond its utilitarian purpose to become an object of sculptural beauty and enduring artistic value.
The underside bears the firms Makers Mark: TIFFANY & CO. MAKERS STERLING, confirming manufacture in sterling silver (.925), together with model number 711. It should be noted that this number refers to Tiffany & Co.s catalogue designation and should not be interpreted as the date of manufacture.
Combining exceptional craftsmanship, elegant proportions and the unmistakable aesthetic of one of the worlds most prestigious luxury houses, this cream jug represents a highly desirable addition to collections of American silver, Tiffany & Co. objects and important twentieth-century decorative arts.
