An elegant Meissen porcelain figure depicting a young boy accompanied by a goat and carrying a basket of grapes, executed in the tradition of eighteenth century Saxon porcelain sculpture, symbolises the Allegory of Autumn, the season of harvest and abundance. The composition is distinguished by its lively modelling, refined sculptural quality and delicate hand painted polychrome decoration. The boy`s blue coat, richly coloured grape clusters, floral garlands and finely modelled goat create a harmonious decorative ensemble characteristic of the finest productions of the Meissen manufactory.

Such allegorical series dedicated to the Seasons and the Four Elements occupied a prominent place within the Meissen repertoire and were intended to embellish aristocratic residences, palace interiors, libraries and reception rooms throughout Europe. The exceptional quality of the modelling, sophisticated colour palette and meticulous attention to detail demonstrate the outstanding artistic standards of the manufactory.
