An icon of Christ Pantokrator (Christ the Almighty) set within a highly artistic silver-gilt oklad of 84 zolotnik standard, created by Moscow silversmiths at the end of the 19th century. Christ is depicted according to the traditional Orthodox iconography of the Pantokrator, raising His right hand in blessing and holding the open Gospel in His left hand.

The silver oklad demonstrates exceptional decorative craftsmanship. The background is embellished with fine engine-turned guilloché work, creating the visual impression of a precious woven textile. The silver-gilt riza is executed in repoussé and chased relief, with finely modelled folds of the garments, engraved details and a carefully finished gilt surface.

Of particular artistic importance is the rich enamel decoration. The halo, corner mounts and ornamental elements are decorated with elaborate floral motifs combining cloisonné and champlevé enamel techniques. The refined colour palette combines deep cobalt blue, turquoise, emerald green, white and coral-red tones. The border of the halo is further enhanced with a row of hemispherical enamel beads, emphasizing the ceremonial and decorative character of the composition.

The enamel inscriptions and ornamental cartouches reflect the influence of the Russian Revival style of the late 19th century, inspired by the artistic traditions of Old Russian decorative art. The reverse retains its original velvet covering.

Marks: Oval assay mark of the Moscow Assay Office with the initials of assay master Ivan Lebedkin “ИЛ” and the date 1891, Moscow city mark depicting Saint George the Victorious, silver standard “84”. Maker’s mark “НС” in a rectangular cartouche - a Moscow silversmith active in the late 19th century.

Dimensions: 32 × 27 cm.

Condition: Good collectible condition. The silver-gilt oklad and enamel elements are preserved. The silver displays a noble age-related patina, with minor signs of use and localized wear to the gilding consistent with the age of the object.

CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL
Cloisonné enamel is one of the most complex and visually expressive enameling techniques in decorative and applied arts. It is based on the creation of an ornamental design formed by thin metal partitions filled with colored enamel compounds. This technique allows for exceptional clarity of ornament, rich polychromy, and a distinctive jewel-like graphic quality of the surface.
