In the lower right corner, the work bears the signature “K. Somov” and the date “1897”. The painting is presented in a gilded oval frame with a museum-quality blue passe-partout. On the reverse, there is an old collector’s label with the handwritten inscription: “K. Somov, 1869–1939”, within a decorative blue border.

The presented work is attributed to an unknown artist inspired by the artistic legacy of Konstantin Andreevich Somov (1869–1939), one of the outstanding representatives of Russian Art Nouveau and Symbolism, as well as one of the founders of the “World of Art” artistic association. Somov’s artistic language developed at the intersection of European fin de siècle culture, 18th-century aesthetics and the traditions of French Rococo, combining refined decorativeness, intimate imagery and a particular sensitivity to the atmosphere of private life.
The composition “Nude Model” demonstrates characteristic features associated with Somov and his followers: the intimacy of the subject, the elegance of the interior setting, attention to the female form and a delicate treatment of light. The female figure is presented not merely as an academic study, but as part of an aestheticized world of beauty and contemplation, where interior objects, fabrics and decorative elements create a unified emotional atmosphere.
The influence of Somov and the artists of the “World of Art” circle played an important role in the development of Russian art at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Their interest in historical styles, theatricality, symbolic imagery and the culture of the past became one of the defining characteristics of Russian Art Nouveau. Works created in the Somov manner attracted the attention of European collectors and today are regarded as reflections of the artistic ideals of the Silver Age and the spread of the “World of Art” aesthetic beyond Russia.
Excellent state of preservation. The painting is free from losses, with a clean surface and a stable paint layer. Minor signs of age are present on the frame and reverse. The work is presented in a museum-quality gilded oval frame with a blue passe-partout.
