A Russian silver tankard with hinged lid, executed in the Neo-Russian style and richly ornamented with polychrome cloisonné enamel over filigree. The cylindrical body is decorated with an intricate ornamental composition inspired by ancient Russian floral and geometric motifs. The enamel decoration is rendered in a vibrant palette of cobalt blue, turquoise, white and green, harmoniously contrasted against the gilded silver ground. The hinged lid is centred with a polychrome enamel rosette executed in the same refined technique. The elegantly curved handle is seamlessly integrated into the overall silhouette, enhancing the sculptural character of the vessel. Comparable works were produced by the leading Moscow silver workshops of the early twentieth century, continuing the traditions of the Russian Revival style inspired by seventeenth-century decorative arts and the achievements of Moscows master silversmiths. The present tankard represents an outstanding example of Russian artistic silver from the late Historicist period.
Hallmarks: Oval Russian official assay mark depicting a female head in a kokoshnik facing right with the district initials ИЛ. Registered makers mark ВМ.

Condition: Very good condition. Minor signs of age and handling consistent with the period. The cloisonné enamel decoration is well preserved.
