James WILHEMS (XIX-XX) Venetian landscape. Scenic view of the sails, gondola, Doges Palace and Santa Maria de la Salute. Summer, bright and cheerful view from the water of the Venetian Lagoon. Oil on canvas, signed lower left.

Size in the painting: 47 x 65 cm. Size in the frame: 72 x 91 cm.
Historical background: James Williams is a Scandinavian (?) artist who painted views of Venice (Grand Canal) and (possibly) the French coast in the manner of the French Impressionists. Signed on the left, below J. Wilhems. First half of the 20th century. Presumably, the artist lived in France. The gilded wooden carved frame from the turn of the century is made in the Art Nouveau style.
