An impressive pair of monumental five-light candelabra, executed in Europe during the second half of the nineteenth century in the Neo-Baroque taste. These sculptural works are exemplary productions of the Historicist period, inspired by the opulent ornamental vocabulary of seventeenth and eighteenth-century French Baroque decorative arts.
Each candelabrum is conceived around a dynamic sculptural composition featuring a putto supporting a lavish cornucopia, from which five elegantly scrolling candle branches naturally emerge. The sculptural modelling displays fluid silhouettes, refined plasticity and a sophisticated spatial composition characteristic of the finest European art bronze foundries of the nineteenth century.
The bodies are cast in richly patinated bronze with a deep, warm surface. Fire-gilt candle sockets, decorative collars, acanthus foliage and finely chased ornamental details create a striking contrast against the dark patina, enhancing both the sculptural modelling and the depth of the relief. The compositions rest upon substantial circular bases that provide visual balance, structural stability and an imposing architectural presence.
The allegory of the cornucopia, symbolising abundance, prosperity and good fortune, combined with the playful figures of putti, is among the most enduring themes of European Baroque art. Distinguished by their expressive sculptural conception, exceptional quality of casting and harmonious combination of patinated and gilt bronze, this pair constitutes an outstanding decorative statement suitable for both classical and eclectic interiors.
