An elegant silver figurine depicting a seated dog, crafted in Russia during the late nineteenth to early twentieth century. The piece is a characteristic example of Russian cabinet animalier sculpture produced during the flourishing period of Imperial Russian silver.

The composition is distinguished by its balanced silhouette and refined sculptural modelling. The sculptor has skilfully captured the animal`s calm posture and natural proportions. The surface is meticulously finished with chased and engraved decoration reproducing the texture of the fur while emphasizing the expressive modelling of the head, body and paws. The subtle interplay of relief enhances the vitality and artistic character of the figure.

Miniature silver animal sculptures enjoyed considerable popularity among collectors and connoisseurs of decorative arts at the turn of the twentieth century. Such works adorned writing desks, private studies and display cabinets, combining decorative appeal with exceptional silversmithing craftsmanship.

Owing to its quality of execution, harmonious proportions and expressive modelling, this figurine represents a desirable collector`s example of pre-Revolutionary Russian silver.
