A rare silver rouble of Peter the Great, struck in 1723 during the final stage of the monetary reform of Russia`s first Emperor. This issue ranks among the most desirable coinage of the Petrine period and represents the important variety depicting the Emperor in an ermine mantle without the badge of the Order of Saint Andrew the First-Called.
The obverse bears the right-facing laureate bust of Emperor Peter I wearing an imperial ermine mantle. The absence of the badge of the Order of Saint Andrew on the breast is the defining attribution characteristic of this variety, distinguishing it as one of the most significant die varieties among the 1723 rouble issues. The surrounding legend carries the imperial titulature.
The reverse displays the celebrated crowned cross composed of four Cyrillic letters П, each surmounted by an Imperial crown. The four numerals 1 placed within the angles denote the denomination, while the date 1723 is divided around the composition. This reverse type is one of the most iconic designs of Peter the Great`s silver coinage and symbolizes the establishment of the monetary system of the Russian Empire.
The coin displays an impressive strike, exceptional preservation of detail and an attractive natural cabinet patina characteristic of authentic early eighteenth-century Russian silver coinage.
