An elegant English silver claret jug with a removable glass liner, crafted in London by the renowned silversmiths Horace Woodward & Hugh Taylor in 1893. Executed in the Late Victorian Neo-Rococo taste, the piece is a fine example of late nineteenth-century English ornamental silver, combining practical function with richly sculptural decoration.

The silver mount embraces the upper section of the glass body and is elaborately ornamented with high-relief rocaille scrollwork, luxuriant grapevine motifs with clustered grapes, and finely chased foliage. The neck is adorned with a boldly modelled mascaron depicting a bearded male face, lending the vessel the dramatic sculptural character characteristic of Victorian decorative arts. An elegant S-scroll handle complements the harmonious silhouette of the jug.

The hinged cover is surmounted by a fully modelled lion supporting a heraldic shield, a traditional emblem of British heraldry symbolising strength, dignity, and nobility, further emphasising the ceremonial nature of the piece. The clear blown-glass liner creates a refined contrast with the richly ornamented silver mount, enhancing both its visual lightness and decorative appeal.
